The World Jiu-Jitsu Championship started in the capital

The city of Astana is hosting the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship among juniors and cadets for the first time.

More than 1,000 of the strongest gray carpet masters from 42 countries of the world gathered for the competition. At this tournament, 194 of the best athletes of the Kazakhstan national team will defend their honor.

The official opening ceremony of the competition was attended by Chairman of the Committee on Sports and Physical Culture of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan Erbol Myrzabosynov, President of the International Jiu-Jitsu Federation Theodoropoulos Panayotis, Head of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the city of Astana Samat Zhylkybaev, President of the Jiu-Jitsu Association of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kuat Sagiev.

- “Today, jiu-jitsu has been a sport in our country for a short time, but over the past two years it has made great progress. He has been recognized as number two in the world by the JJIF (Ju-Jitsu International Federation) for his great contributions to the development of the sport at the global level. This is a great pride for us.

Thanks to the direct patronage of the head of state Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, much attention is paid to domestic sports in the country.

As a result, today domestic jiu-jitsu shows high results at world championships. Today, more than 19,000 people practice jiu-jitsu.

Holding the World Championship in our capital Astana contributes to the development and wide dissemination of the sport of jiu-jitsu in our republic and in the international arena, increasing the professional skills and competitiveness of athletes, attracting the population to regular sports, and popularizing a healthy lifestyle.

I wish all participants good luck and strive to win to the end!” - said Erbol Myrzabosynov, Chairman of the Committee on Sports and Physical Culture of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Participants in age categories from 14 to 21 will compete in exciting events over five consecutive days.

The championship will last until August 25 at the Martial Arts Palace named after Zh.Ushkempirov. Also, the final matches of the championship will be broadcast live on the Qazsport TV channel.
